PLATFORM MANAGER
Flying Fox Ventures, founded by Rachael Neumann and Kylie Frazer, provides early stage capital to propel Australian and New Zealand companies across the globe.
We have a great portfolio of 40+ companies including Mr Yum, JigSpace, Goterra, Xailient, Muso and The Mintable and we’re just getting started.
We are thrilled to be hiring our first Platform role. We are looking for someone who loves building communities at scale and who knows their way around no code tools. You’ll need to be obsessive about details and customer delight. We have an unfair advantage - our founders and our investors - and we’re looking for a big thinker + meticulous doer to unlock the magic that’s hiding just under the surface of our Flying Fox community.
About the role
We don’t expect you to have deep experience in all these areas - part of the fun will be learning by doing. But as a guide, you can expect to be responsible for:
-
Designing and implementing onboarding programs for new companies
-
Designing and executing ongoing founder and investor educational programs and resources
-
Building community within our investor network, within our founder network, and then connecting the the dots between them
-
Increasing high impact connections between our portfolio companies as we roll out the Fox Den (our pledge to share 5% of our carry with our founders)
-
Managing brand initiatives, events, marketing and (light touch) social media
-
Representing Flying Fox at industry events
-
Actively participating in a range of internal operations and strategic initiatives
Please note this is not an investor-track role.
About you
These things are really important to us - and we hope they are to you:
Openness: First, we strive to be good humans. Transparent in all we undertake, doing the right thing is our foremost business principle.
Discovery: We are learning all the time, and not afraid to be challenged on assumptions.
Discipline: Consistent investing requires an ever-churning funnel and building processes to keep all the balls in the air. At times, it’s not glamorous. Doing the work is what makes us great.
Fun: See what we did there? Discipline with fun! We don’t take ourselves too seriously. Feel free to bring your weirdest, wildest self. Did we mention our Ops Associate has 17 cats?
Your background is less important to us, but you must have a passion for startups and the communities that underpin them. You need to understand humans, and then use your magic toolkit (tech, products, events, content) to have a deep and meaningful impact on them. Ideally you’ve done this before (and can speak to the business impact), and we can’t wait to build upon what has worked and give you the space to try out all of the big bold ideas you’ve had but weren't given the chance to build.
Good written and verbal communication skills are essential. You need to be able to drive CRM software (experience with Affinity a bonus), and a range of cloud-based technologies with ease (Docs/Word, Excel/Sheets, Notion, Canva, Airtable, Stacker…to name our current core stack) and even wow us with a new trick or two.
Above all else, you have demonstrated the ability to be a self-starter and love tackling big problems semi-autonomously. You love that you’ll be part of a small-but-mighty team that you’ll leverage for guidance and debate to make your work better, but you derive great joy in being the mini-master of your domain.
This is a fully remote role and we are reasonably flexible in design - we have an appetite to scale the role between part time and full time for the right person. Both partners (one in Sydney, one in Melbourne) live bustling personal and professional lives - finding the balance to make it all work is a non-negotiable for our team culture. We obsess over outcomes and results; not time spent with feet under the desk.
Please apply by filling out the Application form here. We believe you are more than your CV and want to get to know the real you - so show us who you are above and beyond the traditional markers of ‘success’. Candidates from diverse backgrounds - in all the beautiful ways diversity can be defined - are encouraged to apply. Applications close on Aug 15.
